The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) is encouraging more organisations to join a government-backed programme promoting the reuse of IT equipment to help people who are ‘digitally excluded’, while supporting Partner-led sustainability services and social value outcomes.
► Scheme encourages refurbishment and reuse of devices for people without access to technology
The IT Reuse for Good Charter, launched in March 2025 by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, promotes a ‘reuse first’ approach aligned with growing ESG priorities and demand for circular IT. Organisations are expected to refurbish devices and make them available to those without access, creating opportunities for Partners to support customers with compliant reuse strategies.

Developed with organisations including Google and Good Things Foundation, the scheme is already delivering impact. Earlier this year, 60 laptops were provided to the Digital Poverty Alliance, supporting children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
To qualify, devices must meet ‘Grade B’ criteria, including good cosmetic condition, at least 75% battery health, and no physical damage, ensuring resale quality and Partner viability.
Alongside MHCLG, the DVLA and 43 organisations, including BT, Currys and Atos, have joined, signalling growing adoption.
TD SYNNEX can support Partners with recycling and reuse through the TD SYNNEX Renew programme.
