What are neoclouds and why do they matter?

A neocloud is a new type of cloud hyperscaler built specifically for AI workloads. Powered primarily by GPUs, these providers are often described as GPU clouds or GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) platforms.

Neoclouds have emerged in response to growing demand for AI infrastructure, providing the compute power needed for AI training, testing and inference without requiring organisations to invest in expensive hardware. As organisations accelerate AI adoption and demand for GPU resources continues to grow, neoclouds are becoming an increasingly important part of the cloud market.

Why do we need neoclouds?

What are neoclouds and why do they matter?

The rapid growth of AI has created unprecedented demand for GPU-powered infrastructure. While traditional hyperscalers continue to expand their AI capabilities, organisations often need fast access to specialist compute resources for AI projects.

Neoclouds are designed to meet this demand. They provide access to the latest AI infrastructure on a flexible, pay-as-you-go basis, enabling businesses to experiment, test and scale AI initiatives without significant upfront investment or long-term commitments.

This can be particularly valuable for organisations that are still evaluating platforms, trialling AI use cases or looking to control costs before making larger infrastructure decisions.

Who are the leading neocloud providers?

CoreWeave, Nebius and Nscale are among the best-known neocloud providers, although the market continues to expand rapidly. While they may not yet be as familiar as the major hyperscalers, their growing role in AI infrastructure means they are likely to become increasingly visible.

Do neoclouds take business away from channel partners?

Some neocloud providers work directly with large enterprise customers, but reaching the broader market will require partner engagement. Like traditional hyperscalers, they will often rely on channel partners to extend their reach and provide consultancy, implementation and managed services.

For partners, neoclouds are more likely to create new opportunities than replace existing relationships.

Why should partners understand neoclouds?

Partners advising customers on AI strategy, infrastructure or cloud services should understand where neoclouds fit within the market.

Today, demand is strongest among enterprise and mid-market organisations, but AI adoption is expanding across businesses of all sizes. As customer interest grows, resellers and MSPs will need to understand the full range of AI infrastructure options available.

TD SYNNEX is the only distributor to represent all three major hyperscalers in the UK. Our specialist team can help partners deepen their understanding of cloud and AI infrastructure while continuing to meet evolving customer needs.
