The UK government has updated its advice on Cyber Essentials certification making it clear that having the certification alone does not mean a supplier can provide comprehensive protection – or lessen the likelihood of an attack. The revised advice also stipulates that legacy IT services are likely to need separate and specialised protection.
► Updated advice recognises fast-changing nature of cyber landscape
► Special measures required for legacy systems
The guidance is aimed at ensuring public sector supply chains can be sure that the services they use are up to scratch. Cyber Essentials has thus become a necessity for security providers targeting the public sector.

The programme enables organisations to complete a self-assessment, which is then verified externally. Businesses can also attain a Cyber Essentials Plus badge which requires an independent technical examination.
