TD SYNNEX picks up two honours at Sustainability in Tech Awards

TD SYNNEX and one of its co-workers with a passion for reducing carbon consumption, Mick Gilmore, have been named as winners in the first CRN Sustainability in Tech awards. TD SYNNEX was named Sustainability Champion of the Year – Distributor, while Mick Gilmore picked up the Unsung Hero award in recognition of his contribution to the UK&I’ s efforts to move toward net zero.

► Mick Gilmore is named as channel’s Unsung Hero on sustainability

► UK&I operation recognised for pushing on with plans to move to net zero

The Sustainability Champion – Distributor award was made in recognition of the work TD SYNNEX has done in forging ahead with initiatives to drive its UK&I business towards net zero carbon as quickly as possible. These include the Future Workplace plan, the move of all locations to renewable electricity, and the work done to encourage other channel organisations to address their own carbon footprint and adopt more sustainable practices.

Kevin Wragg, director, environment and quality compliance, UK, TD SYNNEX, said: ‘There is a real passion for sustainability right across TD SYNNEX UK&I and every one of our co-workers can be tremendously proud of this achievement. We are taking positive and meaningful actions and pushing harder and faster for change. That’s making a real difference and it’s great to see that being recognised.’

Mick Gilmore has the job title of engineering and facilities manager, UK, TD SYNNEX, but in practice he does much more than that, said Graham Anderson, operations director, UK, TD SYNNEX.

‘If you need to get something done, you talk to Mick. He’s been instrumental in all our most important achievements – the design and build of the Maplewood location in Basingstoke, the installation of LED lighting, the move to green energy, and getting EV charging points installed. He’s also our chief Health and Safety Officer, so in a sense, Mick looks after us all. Senior managers come up with the ideas and strategies – Mick makes them happen. He is a genuine unsung hero. It’s great to see him recognised in this way and it’s well, truly and thoroughly deserved.’
