Enterprises are accelerating AI adoption, but many are doing so without the infrastructure or governance to support it, according to the latest Enterprise Cloud Index report from Nutanix. The research found that AI is fuelling a shift in approach to infrastructure with shadow AI and organisational silos creating new operational and security challenges.

► Lack of infrastructure and governance holding back AI adoption

► Use of shadow AI widespread

The report looked at the challenges IT decision-makers face with the rapid increase in the use of AI forcing infrastructure updates.

Key findings include:

  • Infrastructure isn’t fully ready - 82% say their current on-prem infrastructure is not fully prepared to support AI workloads.
  • Shadow AI is now widespread - 79% report AI apps or agents being deployed outside IT and 87% say unsanctioned AI use introduces business risk
  • Silos are slowing execution - 82% say disconnects between business units and IT make it difficult to deliver tech initiatives effectively
  • AI is driving container adoption - 85% say AI is accelerating container use with 83% already building new applications in containers
