Barco: The Workplace Digital Divide survey

The Workplace Digital Divide survey commissioned by Barco and conducted by research firm Vanson Bourne, recognised that while millennials do indeed have an expectation that IT should ‘just work’ and act as a simple enabler, two thirds (66%) of requests for assistance to IT support on presentation technologies come from Generation X (those born between the early-to-mid 1960s to the early 1980s) and millennials.

The apparent reason for this was that they lack IT problem solving skills, with almost six in 10 (58%) IT respondents reporting that employees ask for assistance because they are not digitally confident enough to resolve IT problems themselves.

The findings revealed that Generation X and millennials ask for more assistance than Baby Boomers when it comes to resolving IT problems.

With presentation technologies, the difficulties were mostly with in hooking-up external devices such as notebooks, tablets and mobiles, or with the meeting room technology, such as a screen, projector or conference call devices.
