Apple users can now opt to carry out DIY repairs to their devices under a new scheme announced by the company. But the Self Service Repair option is intended only for technicians with the knowledge and experience to repair electronic devices. Apple stressed that, for the vast majority of customers, visiting a professional repair provider with certified technicians who use genuine Apple parts is the safest and most reliable way to get a repair.
►Will be available initially for iPhone 12 and 13

►Mac options to follow
Under Apple’s Self Service Repair scheme, customers who are comfortable with completing their own repairs will be given access to Apple genuine parts and tools.
Initially, the service will be available for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, with Apple Mac computers featuring M1 chips soon to follow. It will be launched early next year in the US and should arrive in the UK and Europe sometime later in the year. Customers will be able to do their own repairs on the most commonly-serviced parts, such as the iPhone display, battery, and camera, but this list will be extended at some point.
Apple parts and tools will be available through the Apple Self Service Repair Online Store. Following the repair, customers who return their used parts for recycling will receive credit toward their purchase.
