Apple expands iPhone recycling scheme

Apple has expanded its recycling scheme with customers now able to return their eligible iPhones to any Apple Store.

The devices are disassembled by Daisy, Apple’s recycling robot, which can now take apart 15 different iPhone models at the rate of 200 per hour, recovering important materials which are then fed back into the manufacturing process.

A United Nations report found that 44.7 million metric tons of e-waste was generated in 2016 and of that, only 20% was recycled.
