We spoke to Sophia Haywood Atkinson, business unit director – services, UK and Ireland, TD SYNNEX about the company’s plans to grow its services business with partners

‘Services are a key priority for TD SYNNEX’ – that’s the message that comes through loud and clear from Sophia Haywood Atkinson, business unit director – services, UK and Ireland, TD SYNNEX. ‘We want to be best in class for services – and known for it’.

As a starting point, TD SYNNEX will be focusing on expanding its configuration and professional services. ‘With the advances being made in AI there is an opportunity for us to do more configuration to order and enable partners to provide more consistent imaging and security for customer roll-outs, so that users get exactly the same experience wherever they are. We already do a lot of that work, and we expect to do even more.’

Reducing carbon footprint

Reducing carbon footprint

For partners, using TD SYNNEX to do the pre-shipment config’ services makes sense as it reduces their own costs and their carbon footprint. ‘If the partner is purchasing equipment from us, why not use us to do the configuration and testing. That reduces the number of steps in the supply chain – and we can also drop-ship for them. That reduces consumption, so it’s a more sustainable approach.

Financial services are another area of growth for TD SYNNEX, especially now that all options have been consolidated and are available through TD SYNNEX Capital (read more below) – the company’s dedicated financing arm. ‘We want to give all our partners a way to buy equipment and services from us in a way that is most efficient for them. It’s not about selling finance, it’s about providing our partners and their customers with options and flexibility’, said Sophia.

Lifecycle services

Lifecycle services

Finally, lifecycle services are going to be an increasingly big area of focus and activity. While TD SYNNEX already offers trade-in services it will be broadening and extending its portfolio and providing a consistent and uniform approach for all products and scenarios. ‘Lifecycle is a key priority for us at a strategic level, and we will be aligning our proposition to put TD SYNNEX at the forefront of trade-in and resale of used devices that have come back into the channel through our Trade-in services proposition.’

Importantly, partners will be able to make use of these services for any size of trade-in – from a handful of devices to thousands. ‘We are focused on SMB partners – they are the ones that don’t have the big teams to drive a service proposition or have their own configuration centre.’

Perfect fit

Perfect fit

The recent announcement that certified refurbished HP laptops and desktops are now available from TD SYNNEX through HP Renew, dovetails perfectly with the increased focus on lifecycle services. ‘That business will go through the same processes and will be covered by an HP warranty, which is amazing and I’m really excited about that.’

More options will be coming but already today, partners can bring back legacy laptop and desktop systems and trade them in and purchase devices that have come through our Trade-in services proposition. This gives the customer a better deal, ensures no old products or components end up in landfill, and feeds into the circular economy approach that most customers want to take.

Focused approach

Focused approach

The whole approach to services is now much more focused. ‘We have listened to our partners and to our vendors, and we are making sure we are providing the services where we can add value, where they need more resources or can’t do it themselves, or services they adapt and resell as their own. We are focusing on delivering the services that will be most effective for them. We want to make it easy and that means having the right people and processes in place, so it’s easy for partners to do services business.’
