Parts of the public sector may be leading the way in purchasing refurbished or reconditioned equipment with the Welsh government now exploring the possibility in a new framework that could be worth as much as £200 million.
► Underlines the value of offering trade-in and refurb options
► Help customers maximise sustainability efforts and get the best possible ROI
According to a report on publictechnology.net, the Welsh Government is asking for bids from recycled tech providers for a £200 million IT contract. While it is only running a scoping exercise for now, it’s thought that a formal procurement exercise for the third iteration of the All-Wales IT Products and Services Agreement will be announced later this year. This will cover a wider range of tech products.
The website notes that the Welsh government plans to include a section on the ‘circular economy and recycled items’ in the latest version of the national cross-public sector tech framework. The new round is expected to be worth £200 million. The earlier framework features 21 suppliers and had an expected value of £300 million during its initial two-year term – which expired in January 2023.
More organisations are looking to maximise their sustainability efforts and get the best possible value from IT spending. This is underlining the value of offering trade-ins on old equipment and providing refurbishment and recycling options – both of which partners can do through TD SYNNEX.
