Fujitsu is offering a breakthrough innovation in optical character recognition scanning for the first time with its new fi-8000 scanner series, giving partners something new and genuinely appealing to take to market.

►Innovative technology makes it easier to scan sensitive documents such as passports

Fujitsu debuts clear image capture to make passport reading and document scanning faster and more reliable

►Able to scan large volumes and mixed batches accurately

►Prevents damage to documents by auto-stopping scans

Clear image capture (CIC) is a proprietary technology that uses true image rendering and colour shift prevention to deliver industry-leading OCR accuracy and quality that surpasses the capabilities of standard CIS (contact imaging sensor) and CCD (charged coupled device) techniques that are used on most scanning devices.

Fujitsu’s patented feeding mechanism can ensure safe capture of documents such as passports, without the need for a carrier sheet, while recognition of the machine-readable zone (MZR) of a passport, ensures consistently accurate capture of personal data.

The technique, called automatic separation control, also ensures accurate document feeding. This enables larger volumes and mixed batches of documents to be scanned. By sensing their weight and adapting and adjusting torque automatically, mis-feed and mid-scan interruptions are eliminated.

In addition, the Fujitsu fi-8000 series protects documents with a feature called patented image monitoring. This identifies overly-skewed documents in real time and halts the scanning process before they can be damaged. Some models also come with intelligent sonic paper protection (iSOP) which will stop scans if any abnormal feed sounds are detected.
