A big wave of upgrade opportunities may be about to start rolling in as customers look to update their aging PCs and step up to Windows 11. According to internal figures from Microsoft, around 40% of PCs in use in UK businesses today are more than five-years old, taking them well past their planned or expected lifespan.

Separate figures, published on ComputerWorld, suggest that as many as 55% of devices in use can’t be upgraded to Windows 11. While customers may have held back from upgrading, many will now be starting to see a drop off in productivity as a result of their ageing systems, said Andy Tysoe, business unit manager – Microsoft Surface at TD SYNNEX.
‘It’s perhaps understandable that many businesses have held back from upgrading during the pandemic and while there is a degree of economic change. But at some point – and it could be quite soon – there is bound to be an acceleration of upgrades and uptake of Windows 11. With mobile and remote working more critical than ever, users need more power and flexibility. And with features such as improved access to Teams and virtual desktops and many other enhancements, it’s only a matter of time before users start asking for an upgrade to Windows 11.’
When it comes, the upgrade wave may be quite big and while some constraints of certain product lines continue, they are now easing for the most part.
