Microsoft has warned users to be vigilant to the heightened potential for distributed denial of service (DDoS) attached, after it fended off a massive attack that measured 15.72 Tbps and nearly 3.64 billion packets per second (pps). The attempted shutdown was detected and mitigated, automatically, by Azure DDOS Protection.

In a blog post, Microsoft labelled it as the largest DDoS attack ever observed in the cloud. It targeted a single endpoint in Australia and took place in late October. The company warned that it is essential to confirm that all systems are adequately protected against DDoS attacks and worth carrying out tests to make sure that they are up to the job.
