Author: TD SYNNEX Newsflash Published: 28th April 2022

The new Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) came into force on 1 April and partners need to be aware of this and be ready to answer customer questions on the subject. While we are still assessing the impact, what you need to know for now is that, where we are the legal importer, all products sourced through TD SYNNEX will have had the tax paid.

Plastic Packaging Tax – are you ready to answer customer questions?

►Legal importers are liable to pay tax on plastic packaging

With PPT, where goods that are contained in plastic packaging, tax may be due – if the amount of plastic exceeds 10 tonnes per annum. The legal importer of the goods is liable for the tax, which applies to all plastic packaging that does not contain at least 30% recycled plastic.

We are working with our vendor partners to understand how much plastic is in their packaging and what percentage is recycled. You can read more about PPT on the UK government website.
