Panasonic has launched the TOUGHBOOK G2mk3 – the first TOUGHBOOK tablet to feature AI processing with an Intel AI Boost neural processing unit (NPU), vastly increasing efficiency and accuracy for mobile workers across industries.

► G2mk3 is first Windows 11 rugged tablet with AI capabilities

► Market-leading customisation and modularity

The 10.1-inch device is the first rugged tablet device to make use of Windows 11 Pro and the Intel Core Ultra 5 processor 135U (with Intel vPro Technology). It comes with 16GB DDR5x RAM, upgradable to 32GB.

With its stand-alone AI capabilities mobile users of the TOUGHBOOK G2mk3 can analyse faults, provide information and complete tasks without the need for network connectivity or impacting overall performance and processing power. This is particularly useful for workers in utilities – especially those inspecting equipment in remote locations.

It has a 13MP rear camera with enhanced sensor to deliver better visuals in low-light and mixed light conditions, ideal for capturing high-resolution images in environments where adverse lighting conditions would normally be a problem.

When combined with its edge-AI capabilities, the 13MP camera enables field workers to take advantage of computer vision technology. For example, where electrical field workers have access to wiring diagrams and schematics on the G2mk3, users can use computer vision to see where wiring connections should be, increasing accuracy and productivity.

Importantly for the emergency and field services markets, 80% of the new device is common to the first two iterations of the TOUGHBOOK G2 and can use the same in-vehicle docking platform as the G2mk1 and G2mk2. A key feature for the defence sector is the G2mk3’s highly-customisable design, with the top and rear expansion areas able to accommodate a wide range of peripherals, such as fingerprint readers and MicroSD cards.

It offers 11 hours of battery life – a 47% increase compared to the G2mk2 – and 5G-ready connectivity out of the box. It also has improved Bluetooth capabilities and market-leading IP65-rated dust and water resistance, independently tested to MIL-STD 810H and IEC 60529 standards.
