Lenovo has officially opened the doors to its first in-house manufacturing facility in Ullo, Hungary. A majority of the factory's work is focused on building server infrastructure, storage systems, and high-end PC workstations. Lenovo Hungary's general manager, Anita Lukacs, said completing the factory construction amid the COVID-19 pandemic was "something exceptional."
The new facility, which spans two buildings and three floors, is one of Lenovo's largest manufacturing facilities. More than 1,000 servers and 4,000 workstations can be produced a day - each built to customer specifications.
In a statement, Francois Bornibus, Senior Vice President and President of EMEA, said: 'With our manufacturing facility in Hungary officially open, we have reached a profound milestone in our global manufacturing network optimisation and evolution. Hungary's well-connected location puts us much closer to our European customers so that we can fulfil and sustain their needs while remaining at the forefront of innovation. As our business continues to grow around the world, this incredible new facility will play a key role in our plans to ensure future success and bring smarter technology for all to Europe more sustainably, quickly and efficiently.”
The Hungary facility is part of Lenovo's global manufacturing and supply chain strategy that serves customers in 180 markets from 35+ manufacturing sites around the world. Lenovo is widely recognised for its hybrid manufacturing model, which incorporates both internal and external manufacturing.

With today's environmental concerns, Lenovo installed solar panels at the new factory that can provide half a megawatt of power, which is enough to power a small village. Combined with new manufacturing processes, such as a patented low-temperature solder process, this will contribute toward achieving climate goals.
