While cloud adoption continues to grow, not all implementations succeed and Gartner has predicted that 25% of organisations will have experienced significant dissatisfaction with cloud deployments by 2028. Unrealistic expectations, sub-optimal implementation and/or uncontrolled costs are all cited as probable reasons for customer disquiet.

► 25% of organisations will have experienced dissatisfaction with cloud deployments by 2028

► Important for partners to manage expectations and have sufficient resources to deliver

While Gartner says that to remain competitive, these unfulfilled customers will need to adopt a clear cloud strategy and a way to execute effectively, it doesn’t speculate on whether they might respond by switching clouds or suppliers or completely changing their approach to cloud.

A quarter of cloud customers will experience dissatisfaction

As many organisations are already committed to taking a hybrid and multi-cloud approach, it seems unlikely that they will simply turn off one or more hyperscaler services. But the findings do reiterate the importance of partners being careful when managing customer expectations and ensuring that they have the capabilities and resources to properly implement and manage cloud solutions.

Frustrated customers may also become more discerning about which workloads they deploy on specific cloud platforms. This will put partners with the ability to effectively deploy solutions for specific use-cases and/or industries at an advantage.

Knowing how to support migrations between public clouds and how to deploy apps across multiple clouds will be desirable skills. Gartner highlights issues in connecting to and between cloud providers as a significant challenge for customers and predicts that more than 50% will not get the expected results from their multicloud implementations by 2029.
