TD SYNNEX’s Datacentre Solutions Manager, Mark Laurence, and NVIDIA Business Manager Bruce Andrews talk Blackwell architecture, meeting customer needs, and shorter lead times

Mark Laurence
Mark Laurence, Datacentre Solutions Manager, TD SYNNEX

BA: Welcome back, Mark. After Nvidia’s GTC 2024, there’s been a lot of excitement around the future of datacenter technology, especially with the announcement of the Blackwell architecture for 2025. How do you see this impacting our approach at TD SYNNEX?

ML: Thanks, Bruce. Despite the jetlag, I’m energized by the developments, particularly Blackwell’s introduction, which promises to redefine datacenter capabilities next year. It’s a significant leap forward, aligning with our commitment at TD SYNNEX to offer the latest technological advancements. The future looks bright, and we’re in a great position to leverage these innovations for our customers and partners.

BA: With Nvidia constantly innovating, let’s talk about their current lineup, especially the H100 and the increasingly popular L40S. How do these GPUs serve our customers' diverse needs?

ML: Nvidia's range, including the powerhouse H100, is designed for the most demanding AI and HPC applications. However, the L40S is capturing attention for its versatility and quicker deployment capabilities. It stands out for its efficiency in AI, VDI, and visualization tasks, making it an excellent choice for fast-paced deployment scenarios. Remarkably, we can offer the L40S with shorter lead times, enhancing our ability to meet customer demands promptly.

BA: The shorter lead times for the L40S are indeed a crucial advantage. Can you expand on the role of the L40S and perhaps other GPUs like the L4 in AI projects?

Our strength at TD SYNNEX lies in our proactive supply chain strategy and our strong partnership with Nvidia

ML: Absolutely. The L40S is a cornerstone for deploying efficient AI solutions, offering a balance of performance and flexibility. For projects with smaller workloads or more focused AI inferencing and datacenter acceleration tasks, the L4 emerges as a cost-effective solution. It’s designed to bring Nvidia’s computational excellence to a broader range of applications, allowing even small-scale projects to benefit from GPU acceleration. These options ensure that our customers can select the best GPU to match their specific requirements and budget constraints.

BA: Given the complexities of Nvidia's supply chain, how do we manage to maintain shorter lead times, particularly for high-demand products like the L40S?

ML: Our strength at TD SYNNEX lies in our proactive supply chain strategy and our strong partnership with Nvidia. This combination allows us to secure priority access to in-demand GPUs like the L40S, ensuring we can support our customers’ deployment timelines effectively. It’s a testament to our team’s expertise and our commitment to delivering value to our customers and resellers.

We’re here to support our customers in making informed decisions that align with both their immediate needs and future growth

BA: As we look to the horizon with Blackwell and continue to navigate the present landscape, any parting advice for our partners?

ML: The key is to stay informed and agile. With Blackwell on the horizon, the potential for datacenter innovation is enormous. However, leveraging current technologies like the L40S and L4 allows businesses to push the boundaries of what’s possible today. We’re here to support our customers in making informed decisions that align with both their immediate needs and future growth.

BA: Thanks, Mark, for sharing your insights. It’s clear that with Nvidia’s technology and our expertise at TD SYNNEX, we’re well-equipped to help our customers navigate the evolving tech landscape."
