When the going gets tough the Panasonic TOUGHBOOK A3 sets a new standard for robust, resilient performance that won’t let users down, even in the harshest conditions.
It’s hard to imagine after the summer we have had, that soon the shorter days, cold weather, and rain will be back upon us. And aside from all the other challenges they face, the emergency services, field-based maintenance and engineering teams, and car breakdown services, will be up against it once more.
But as is often said in our industry, every challenge presents an opportunity, and where a customer needs a rough, tough, resilient performer that won’t let them down, Panasonic is always the first name that comes to mind.
The company’s TOUGHBOOK range is established as the market leader in rugged laptops and tablets; a reputation Panasonic has bolstered further by expanding their tablet range with a new Android 10” device that could be taken into situations in which there is simply no room for compromise.
App deployments
The latest addition to the family is the hugely impressive TOUGHBOOK A3, a 10.1-inch tablet device that runs Android 9.1 and is perfect for the typical specific-use deployments that these devices tend to be used for most of the time.
The TOUGHBOOK A3 is equipped to help mobile workers combat the toughest tasks in the field. It is, as you’d expect, a fully-rugged, ultra-robust system that is water and dust resistant. Inside, Panasonic has equipped the A3 with a Qualcomm Octa-Core SDM660 CPU (1.8GHz-2.2GHz). This is the latest processor designed for devices intended to have a long life. Qualcomm will support this CPU for at least five years, protecting investment for the long-term.
The ‘standard’ A3 model comes with 4GB memory and an 64GB eMMC storage, while the device offers up to 15 hours of battery life. It is equipped Panasonic manufactured duel removable batteries with hot swap functionality, so the A3 is always ready to go.
Another key feature is the use of the Android 9 Pie operating system, which puts minimal strain on the processor and memory. This efficient performance makes the A3 ideal for app deployment.
Light and shade
The 10.1 inch outside viewable display (1920x1200), with high visibility has been designed for easy use and clarity of vision both outside and indoors. The 10-point capacitive touchscreen display can be used by hand, gloved hand or with the capacitive stylus pen for accurate annotation or signature collection even in the rain. It also includes a front camera and mic for video conferencing and a back camera with flash for document and image capture.
High standards
On top of all this, the A3 is compact and impressively light – just 880 grams. This is all the more remarkable considering how tough this device is; it meets both MIL-STD 801H and IP65 standards, so dust, rain, and the difficult conditions we often encounter in the UK and Ireland are not a problem. It will also tolerate being dropped onto a hard surface from 1.5 meters. It gives a whole new meaning to having high standards.
It’s got a good range of I/O too; a USB Type-C , a USB Type-A, and three customisable port options which can be tailored to requirements ahead of shipment. Options here include a smartcard reader, barcode reader or an additional USB Type-A.
Panasonic has also given emphasis to security and management. The device comes with the company’s Android suite of support tools: COMPASS (COMPlete Android Software & Services), and a three-year warranty.
While we have all had enough to challenge us already this year, if you think back to February and March, some areas of the UK were struggling with floods. Those responsible for looking to the future – in utilities, field servicing, car repairs, warehousing, distribution, and the emergency services – will already be starting to think about how they are going to meet the challenges that will face them over the coming winter. They are going to be extremely interested in all that the Panasonic TOUGHBOOK A3 has to offer.
