Accelerated Market Evolution: Collaboration

Published 19th April 2020

A whole new experience

As millions have been compelled to work at home, there has been a huge surge in the use of collaboration applications and services. This set off a wave of demand for products that support effective collaboration, such as headsets, displays and IP cameras – as well as laptops and desktop accessories such as keyboards and mice.

As a consequence, the value of using video when conferencing has been highlighted and that’s starting to change attitudes and buying intentions, said Anna-Marie Constantinou, Business Unit Director for Maverick AV Solutions.

‘Previously, a lot of people would have used voice conferencing regularly but might not have seen or appreciated the value of having a full video and collaboration experience. Now they’ve seen that for themselves over a period of some weeks, we fully expect that to translate into higher demand for meeting-room set-ups back in the office.

‘People are adapting in a way they have never has to before and the concept is being experienced by many more users. We need to embrace that and use it as a way to re-set the way we work. Now that everyone has seen the value, I think we will see the investment.’

As well as video, there are capabilities within solutions such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom that even frequent users rarely use . They are now starting to learn about these extended capabilities, such as screen sharing, white-boarding and polling.

Importantly, she noted, this is an effect that will transcend the entire market – from areas in which video and collaboration are already seen as very desirable, such as education, right through to relatively small businesses. Demand for collaboration and for meeting rooms solutions such as the Microsoft Surface Hub2, has already been given a boost and we can expect the momentum to continue.
