TD SYNNEX signs up to SBTi scheme for science-based target emissions reduction

►Independent organisation will verify goals and track progress

Science-based targets show businesses how much and how quickly they need to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions to prevent the worst effects of climate change.

‘SBTi is the gold standard of environmental target setting and measurement. By signing up to the scheme, TD SYNNEX is making a commitment to aiming for the highest standards of sustainability’, said Kevin Wragg, director environment and quality compliance at TD SYNNEX. The SBTI will verify our goals, chart our progress and the ultimate achievement of those goals. They will independently audit and rubber-stamp our journey.’

A complete analysis of TD SYNNEX’s carbon footprint in the UK and Ireland is now close to being concluded Following-on from this the company will be setting out its strategic plan and target dates to achieve net zero carbon. These goals will be subsequently subject to scrutiny under the SBTi. Further news and updates will be provided when they become available.

Science-based targets provide companies with a clearly-defined path to reduce emissions in line with the goals set out by the 2015 Paris Agreement, where governments committed to limiting the global temperature rise to well-below 2°C above pre-industrial levels. In 2018, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warned that global warming must not exceed 1.5°C above pre-industrial temperatures to avoid the catastrophic impacts of climate change. To achieve this, greenhouse gas emissions must halve by 2030 – and drop to net zero by 2050.

The SBTi is a partnership between CDP (a charity formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project), the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
