HP is cranking up its sustainability, security, and as-a-service messaging as a growing number of customers are now adopting hybrid working practices. According to various research figures quoted by the company:
► 60% of workers want flexibility on where and/or when they work

► 77% of IT managers believe more remote work increases risk
► 72% of businesses already consume SaaS
► 89% of people turn to brands they trust at a time of crisis
HP says that this is all evidence of accelerating change and the need for printing to be more flexible, secure, and sustainable – as well as coming from a trusted provider. As a result, it is emphasising the sustainability of its products – in both the manufacturing process and the ability to recycle ink cartridges, their built-in security features, and the reliability of its brand and partnerships.
HP has said it intends to become ‘the most sustainable and just technology company’ by 2030
It is also driving the as-a-service message by stepping up its awareness campaign for its Plus range and Instant Ink programme. HP Plus devices are available at a lower purchase cost with six-months free printing, after which a monthly, fixed-price Instant Ink subscription kicks in. This means users will never be left unable to print as HP will send a new cartridge ahead of the installed one running out. This approach sits neatly with the switch to subscription models and is perfect for home workers.
On sustainability, HP has said it intends to become ‘the most sustainable and just technology company’ by 2030. It has also set a goal to achieve ‘net zero’ across its value chain by 2040, and for its supplies business to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
