A report from a specialist cybersecurity consultancy S-RM, has found that around 73% of large enterprise organisations in the UK experienced a serious cyberattack over the past three years — up from 60% in 2021.
► Three quarters of big UK firms hit with serious attacks
► Budgets not rising fast enough to keep pace
The report surveyed 600 organisations with revenues of $500 million or more. The average direct loss from a serious cyber incident was $1.5 million, without taking into account the long-term reputational damage and other factors.

While security budgets were up 5.2% year-on-year, the report said this is not enough to keep pace with the challenge. Ransomware and denial-of-service attacks increased the most year-on-year, at 10% and 11% respectively, but instances of data theft, ‘hacktivism’ and fraud were all up.
