Western European Wi-Fi sales rise 60% in Q3 says IDC

Fuelled by the continued adoption of the latest Wi-Fi standards and an easing of supply chain constraints, the enterprise segment of the wireless local area network (WLAN) market saw growth of 59.1% in Western Europe in the third quarter of 2022, according to IDC. Worldwide the increase was 34.3% year-on-year with sales reaching $2.6 billion, Over the first three quarters of 2022, the enterprise WLAN market was up 24.5% compared to 2021.

Sales of Wi-Fi 6 access points generated 79.7% of sales, with the latest Wi-Fi 6E standard claiming less than 5%. Most of the growth was due to the backlog of orders being released as supply constraints eased and customer recommenced with upgrade plans.

IDC also noted that new Wi-Fi standards – in particular the new Wi-Fi 6E, which makes use of the 6 GHz spectrum as well as 2.5 GHz and 5 GHz – have also helped to boost sales, even though Wi-Fi ^E claimed only around 5% of sales in Q3.
