AR and VR tech are starting to be used more widely for both entertainment and business applications – and could soon be helping you drive, navigate junctions and park your car. BMW has started providing augmented reality functionality in one of their new models to help with all of these tasks.
►Arrows are overlaid on live footage to show drivers where to go

►Can be used to assist on turns, lane changes and parking
Finnish firm Basemark has provided an AR-over-video application for the new BMW iX electric car that makes use of data from sensors and cameras around the vehicle to provide real-time visual assistance to the driver on the central display. This functionality is used in conjunction with the car’s navigation system, with a map shown alongside on a spilt screen.
The software can be used to help upcoming manoeuvres, such as turns and lane changes with arrows overlaid on the live footage, showing the recommended direction the driver should take. The AR software is also used to guide the driver towards available parking spaces, with time limits and charges also detailed, and to help them actually park.
