For many organisations, the biggest barrier to AI adoption is not the technology itself but access to the computing power needed to develop, train and test large language models. A new generation of AI-focused laptops powered by NVIDIA's RTX Spark Superchip could provide a more accessible and cost-effective alternative, helping accelerate AI development and testing.

Microsoft recently announced the Surface Laptop Ultra, a high-performance device powered by NVIDIA's RTX Spark platform and Grace Blackwell GB10 architecture. The system is designed to run demanding AI workloads locally, giving organisations an alternative to investing in high-end servers or relying heavily on cloud-based AI services.

More vendors are expected to launch laptops based on the NVIDIA GB10 platform, creating opportunities for partners to help customers advance AI projects and explore new revenue streams, according to Jay Allen, business unit director, PC Systems, TD SYNNEX:
"We see this as a fantastic opportunity for partners to offer customers a full AI development platform capability in a familiar and accessible form factor. It’s easier to make use of the raw power and having a device that can be taken and used just about anywhere gives customers a lot of flexibility. We’re excited about the new Surface Laptop Ultra and the other devices we expect to see being launched soon."
Jay believes these high-performance AI systems will also change how TD SYNNEX and partners support customers.
"To sell these systems, I think both we and our partners will need to have more technical knowledge. Not only about the systems themselves, but about AI as well. We need to be fluent both in terms of the language we use and our understanding of how AI solutions are built, tested and implemented."
For partners looking to build AI knowledge and capability, TD SYNNEX's Destination AI programme provides a starting point. The PC Systems team can also provide guidance on the Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra and other devices based on the NVIDIA GB10 chipset as the new generation of AI-focused systems becomes available.
